Who is a Negative Person?

A negative person is anyone who has a dim view of the future and the world around him/her.

Negative people do not explore new skills, opportunities, and challenges because they have already concluded that they can’t improve. They do not want others to improve either.

That’s just a summary of who negative people are.

In another article, we will take you through how you can identify a negative person but today we are going to be talking about Reasons why you should avoid negative people in your business.

Why You Should Avoid Negative People in Your Business

There are a few things negative people will do to you that will affect your business negatively.

1.     Demean Your Value

Nothing can be worse than a lack of self-confidence. A person who lacks self-confidence will not be able to reach his true potentials and such a person will not be able to grow. Do you know how important the clause-“you can do it.” is?

It can go a very long way in helping you achieve your dream and purpose.

As a business person who wants to start a business or who wants to maintain a business, for example, you need to value yourself and have self-confidence.

Negative people, however, lack self-confidence, and if you have them around especially if you choose them as your advisors and close companion, their negativity and lack of confidence will eventually rub off on you.

They will give you remarks such as “Oh this thing is more than you”,” You are not old enough to do this and that”. They make you lose belief in yourself and in what you can do.

They discredit you and make you feel like a chicken rather than an eagle. Then what happens after that? That business you were about to start, will end up in your dreams only. So avoid negative people.

2.     Destroy Your Image

If you are a business owner or the CEO of a company then you know the value of having a good image with your clients and the general public at large.

People need to trust you and your company.

People need to be able to know that you are of good standing. But what happens if most people around you perhaps your close associates or even your employees are negative people?

They destroy your Image and damage your credibility.

If you hang around people or partner with people or companies who are negative and small-minded then your clients and the public will also view you in that light.

You might not realize it but the truth is other people will judge you as a person by people you hang around with.

And they will judge your company by people you employ or partner with.

Perhaps you have a verbally abusive young lady as your receptionist and you happen to be a very cool, calm, and gentle person, people who are newcomers to your company and do not know you will judge your company based on the negativity of your receptionist.

So avoid negative people in your business and in your personal life.

Negative people are pretty easy to offend.

And when you eventually succeed in offending them well enough, they resort to slander and begin to spread all kinds of malicious lies about you until your reputation is destroyed.

That’s their own way of paying you back for your offense. Stay away from negative people is a piece of advice from us.

3.     Drive You Crazy

You can go nuts and crazy in a few seconds if you are surrounded by negative people. Negative people do not easily accept corrections, they are the kind of people who might even take a simple compliment to be an insult.

When you have an employee who makes a mistake, and when you give corrections to such a person and he takes offense, then that employee is a negative person.

When this kind of thing happens you start to go crazy. There will even be situations when people around will start seeing you as the evil one.

So you will have no other option than to overlook some of their mistakes and if you keep doing this and tolerating them, your business will soon end up in the bottomless pit.

Now, what’s the solution to that? Avoid negative people in the first place. Prevention they say is better than cure

4.     Dispose of Your Dreams

You have a dream of taking your current business to another level or you have a dream of starting a new business.

And you have all the assurance that you are capable of accomplishing or fulfilling your dream.

Then you go to a negative person, and you sit down with a cup of coffee and you start to tell the person your plans hoping for encouraging words that will move you to achieve your dreams. You made a big mistake.

Negative persons are not just negative, they are dream killers and they are experts in discouraging you, giving you negative feedback, and making you feel like shit.

They are so professional in this that they can even make their negative feedback make so much sense to you that you dispose of your dreams and you starting pursing inferior ones.

The truth is there are times in your life when you will struggle with a lot of things especially if you are a young entrepreneur.

What you need at that point is someone or people who will encourage you and support while giving you reasonable counsel and advice.

They will never kill your dreams but they will support you. Now that’s what I call positive energy. You don’t need negative people in your life or as business advisors. Avoid them as much as you can.

5.     Reinforce the Negativity in You

As humans we will always have doubts. You might worry that what you are about to introduce into your business might not work.

You might worry should you take the risk? Well, every successful entrepreneur is a risk-taker. If you are afraid of taking risks then you are not ready to be an entrepreneur.

With that in mind, if you have doubts and you walk up to a negative person, that person will only reinforce the negativity you already have.

They are going to give you all the reasons why you are right in your negative and toxic thinking. They will make you believe your doubts.

Whereas positive people will help you to see why your doubts might be wrong although they might also tell you a few reasons why you might be right too.

But they will not focus on reinforcing your negative thinking instead they might even help you to figure out better options in times of doubt.

John Osteen said once “you cannot hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life.” Do everything you can to avoid negative people in your business.
