What skills are you learning? Tailoring? Fashion designing? Tiling? Catering or are you learning to become a Makeup artist? Well, when it comes to acquiring practical skills, no knowledge should be thrown to the bin. However, whether you plan to start your own business or you would love to work with an organization for the experience, there are certain, hot ‘soft skills’ you need to have in order to achieve your career goals or that of your organization and of course, have something to drop with the bank. Understandably, parents are hardly familiar enough with these relatively new skills. So when many parents talk about learning a skill, they usually refer to skills such as those mentioned at the onset – which are good skills to learn though. Schools hardly thoroughly teach these skills too but as I hinted earlier, these soft skills may just be all you need to get a ‘settled life’ and faster than you can imagine.
1. Computer Programming Skill
The process of developing and implementing various sets of instructions to enable a computer to do a certain task. These instructions are considered computer programs and help the computer to operate smoothly. The language used to program computers is not understood by an untrained eye. Computer programming continues to be a necessary process as the Internet continues to expand. Web programming, system programming, game programming and application programming are some types of computer programming. You can learn this skill whether or not you have a background in computer science.
2. Excellent Writing Skill
Companies are always looking for skilled writers to manage contents on their websites, adverts copies and other communication materials. Others are looking for traffic driving contents for their blogs. If you are a really good and fast writer, you could also render with editing and proofreading services and get paid for it. You do not have to become a Wole Soyinka to have a good writing skill, all you need is the passion for it, practice, read a lot and some lessons that you could google.
3. Social Media Management Skill
A social media manager is the individual in an organization trusted with monitoring, contributing to, measuring and guiding the social media presence of a brand, product, individual or corporation. The role is similar to that of a community manager on a website forum or public relations representative. Social media managers are often found in the marketing and public relations departments of large organizations. A good knowledge of how social media works and how to improve a brands’ image through social media is all you need to get this job in any organization.
4. Digital Marketing Skill
Digital marketing is marketing a brand, product or service online. Digital marketing is broad but you should be able to handle it for any company if you are very internet and social media savvy. From sending newsletters, to buying Facebook ads, to organizing webinars, digital marketing is the way every company is marketing its products to customers now.
Now, that you have an idea how valuable these skills could be, which will you be learning first?
