Welcome to 2016. This year, the meaning of the acronym CEO has metamorphosed. A CEO henceforth is a Certified Online Expert. Apart from the meaning, many identifiers of a typical CEO have assumed different features and characteristics. So in the year 2016 and beyond, who a CEO is, where he works, how he has fun, who his friends are have all assumed some changes that you should get used to:
THEY ARE IN THEIR TWENTIES:
Please do not expect to meet a 50 year old, potbellied, grey haired man or woman in your next meeting with the founder or CEO of that new agency or new consultancy firm. In the year 2016, the founders of huge Tech businesses are mostly young, vibrant single men and women in their twenty something. This is almost applicable to all private industries except the formal education sector that seems to have inflexible preference for the aged.
THEY WORK ROUND THE CLOCK
In 2016, a CEO’s office is majorly online with his or her laptop and other mobile gadgets always handy. The idea of a traditional 10am-4pm working hours is not theirs. They work throughout the day and even at nights. So, don’t be surprised if you are booked for an appointment with a CEO for 8pm via Skype; that would be absolutely fantastic by him or her. The CEOs of 2016 are very mobile, they are not the “seat-in-the-office type”.
THEY HANG OUT ON SOCIAL MEDIA
By 2016, all CEOs who take their businesses seriously would be on almost all social media platforms: Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn Instagram, Snapchat and many others. They always want to be on social media – where information are genuine and most accessible – to know what the audience is saying about their brands and their competitions’.
TIE IS A TABOO
Even when attending some serious official meetings, CEOs in the year 2016 would hardly dress very corporately. They prefer to go for cooperate casual dress on occasions they really feel obliged to dress corporately.
