Whether you are a music lover or not, you’ll agree with me that there has been an out pouring of songs by Nigerian artistes since the beginning of 2017. All genres of music have been well represented – from Afro beat to hip hop; Nigerian Reggae, High life music, etc. While the year ran it course so quickly, a few songs have remained on our play lists and our CD players longer than others. Here in no particular order is a list of 10 hottest songs that rock Nigeria in 2017 so far by student choice.
Yawa by Techno
Released in March 2017, Yawa single handedly changed Tekno’s image from the up and coming guy to an ‘A list’ artiste and music producer.
Mama by Mayorkun
Ever since he joined Davido’s HKN, there has been no stopping for Mayokun, but 2017 has especially been lit for the 24 year old musician. His Mama is one of the most played songs in the year 2017, popping up in all music charts from radio to TV music channels.
Iskaba by Wande coal
Wande coal danced his way back into the hearts of his million fans this year with Iskaba produced by spellz. The sound and lyrics of the song were a brilliant combo, making the single a great comeback hit song for Wande.

Juice by Ycee
This year, Ycee’s Juice cleared the air about the stuff the artiste is made of – he has proved himself as one of the best players in the industry. Juice is surely one party jam second to none is 2017.
If by Davido
Released in the first quarter of 2017 and produced by Tekno, Davido’s If is arguably the most played song in 2017. Once it was released, if changed the game and sent many artistes back to their studios experimenting with the Ghanian Highlife ‘pon pon pon’ sound. This song was so hot that it scored Davido a remix from R.Kelly and some other covers from Nigerian artistes.
Penalty by Small Doctor

Small doctor killed and buried it with his hit song penalty which became the song that leveled up everyone in Nigeria no matter their statuses or backgrounds. From keke Maruwa drivers to Lagos islanders, penalty became the jam that took the seats off everyone’s buttocks at parties.
Wo by Olamide
After a long wait by his great crowd of fans, Olamide finally released his hit song wo which was produced by Young John. The song set the whole country ablaze as soon as it dropped. The whole street soon took to the phrase ‘wo’ and the crazy dance stepped that accompanied the single.
All over by Tiwa Savage
Mavin Records First Lady and mother of one has just won the Best West African Act (Female) at AFRIMA 2017. This award and the numerous others she has received speak to her endless dedication to her music career. Tiwa dropped All Over in April and the tune has been topping music charts ever since its release few months back.
Ponmile by Reminisce
Ponmile is arguably the song with the strongest social message this year. Although the song is composed in Yoruba language, the song has been accepted across the board. Reminisce brings his depth and intellectuality to play in Ponmile and the acceptance has been mad ever since it dropped.
2 Baba: Gaga Shuffle
No one in this list has been in the music game for as long as 2 Baba but with his latest song Gaga shuffle, 2 baba has shown that he isn’t retiring anytime soon. Shuffle gaga, since it dropped has been on the lips of every Nigerian; male, female, young, and old.
